frequent asked questions about diving with ocean quest scuba sandy's sunday

|
Q. Are all of our dives considered drift dives? |
A. Yes, with the Gulf Stream present in our area, all of our dives are drift. This is a very simple and enjoyable way to dive. You just go with the flow and let the boat pick you up when you surface. |
Q. Do I need any special equipment for drift diving? |
A. We require that everyone has a safety sausage. Orange or red are the preferred colors. Due to the current you can get separated from the group when you surface, which isn't a problem. However, not only does your surface marker make it easier for us to spot you when you surface, but helps protect you from other boater in the area, that may not be paying to much attention to our dive flags. |
Q. What is the nearest airport? |
A. West Palm Beach airport is just about 15 minutes from our marina. Ft Lauderdale is also a popular airport, it is approx. 65 miles from the marina. If you are coming in from Miami airport, your a little less than 2 hours away, and from Orlando about 2 1/2 hrs away from Palm Beach. |
Q. Where are places to stay nearby. |
A. We have all the normal chain hotels in our area. We recommend the Super 8 on US Hwy 1. It is a good neighborhood and is only a few minutes from the boat. There is also a wide variety of restraunts in the area. If you looking to stay on the beach, there is: The Resort, Palm Beach Shores Resort, Hilton and Marriott on Singer Island. These rooms are a little more pricy but right on the beach and only a few minutes from the boat. The Super 8 is 561-848-2414 |
Q. Is there camping in the area? |
A. There are a few places to camp in our area. You can do a search for camping in our area to get a list. Lion Country Safari is on the list, it is probably a good 40 minutes from the marina. |
Q. What is the water temp? |
A. Water temp varies throughout the year but is never considered "cold". We have temperatures in the low 80's during the summer months, and in the low 70's in the winter months. We do get thermoclines from time to time, but they are not easy to predict. Some of our coldest thermoclines are in July, but normally only last a day or two. Most divers are comfortable in a 3 mm wetsuit. |
Q. What are the sea conditions like? |
A. Conditions are impossible to predict, we use several sources, but generally we "go look". You'll be contacted prior to your trip if the conditions don't seem favorable. Visibility and current are even less predictable than the sea conditions, overall our diving is good year around. We do have a link to our weather source on our links page, when using it remember..we fall in the "near shore" category. West winds are good, they actually calm the ocean. |
Q. Is there water on the boat? |
A. For a complete list of the equipment and supplies on the boat check out our "Sandy's Sunday" page. But we do stock the boat with bottled drinking water, sodas, snacks and fresh fruit. We also provide weight to our divers at no extra charge. |
Q. Is the boat equipped with Oxygen? |
A. Yes, our boat is completely equipped with multiply emergency oxygen tanks, regulators and a very comprehensive first aid kit. All of our crew is kept current on thier first aid and cpr certifications. |
Q. How would I go about signing up for a dive course? |
A. Give us a call, we will ship your course material right to your front door. You can also visit with your instructor and set up a schedule that works for you. |
Q. How many divers does your boat carry? |
A. Our maximum diver count on our boat is 11 divers. Groups wanting to book the whole boat, need to limit thier divers to 11 spots, you pay for 10 and get one free. |
